    Description

The United New Jersey Railroad and Canal Company was part of the Pennsylvania Railroad system in New Jersey, including the main line to New York City). Prior to 1872, its main lines were the Camden and Amboy Rail Road and Transportation Company, the first railroad in New Jersey, and the New Jersey Rail Road and Transportation Company, the first railroad across the New Jersey Palisades. The Pennsylvania Railroad retained control of the UNJR&C for many decades, and its trackage was included in its merger with the New York Central Railroad and later with the formation of Conrail. Much of the current Amtrak system in New Jersey is former UNJR&C trackage. For auction is an unissued "Registered General Mortgage 4 1/2% Gold Bond" dated march 1, 1951. It was to be due September 1, 1979.
