Description
Use the drop-down menus to choose crossbar length and whether you want it with the seat or without, and with the gunwale clamps or without. Note that price changes as you make different selections.  Or you can order just the seat, for use with our canoe stabilizer.Anodized aluminum crossbar with many uses.  Please look at all the photos to understand how these are used.  They will not come with instructions, although we are available to answer questions.
Crossbar:  Measures 1 3/16" high x 2 7/8" wide x 45" long.  Has holes spaced along the top surface to receive spring buttons of our accessories, like snap-in leeboards, rowing outriggers and stabilizer float arms. Also accepts Spring Creek slip-on wheels and stabilizer pontoons. See our other listings for these accessories.
Gunwale Clamps: Consists of a stainless steel u-bolt, heavy-duty aluminum L-bracket with holes in it for the legs of the u-bolt, and two star-knob nuts with brass threads. We also have them with a U-shaped bottom bracket, for the Mad River Adventure canoe and the Mycanoe canoe.  If you need the U-shaped bottom bracket, just message us when ordering. U-bolt measures about 3 inches inside-to-inside between the legs and the legs are about 4 inches long.  For Raddison and Sports Pal, please message us and request "2-hole plates" so the star knobs of your clamps can be on top.
Gunwale Clamp Instructions: The bottom bracket of the clamp is an "L". The short leg of the "L" goes under the lip at the top edge of the canoe and the long leg bears against the underside of the crossbar. For Radisson and Sportspal, unscrew the star knobs from the u-bolt and take the u-bolt out of the bottom plate, turn it upside down and put the u-bolt legs through the bottom bracket holes with the legs pointing up, then put the 2-hole plates over the legs, then the washers, then the star knobs. For the U-shaped bottom bracket, one leg of the "U" goes under the canoe lip and the other leg bears on the underside of the crossbar.  With the U-shaped bracket you may have to hold the bracket in place with one hand and then slide the crossbar in place with the other.
Seat:Â Â Consists of a rectangular seat with cushion and hardware to attach to crossbar.
Selecting Length:  Crossbar should be longer than the width of your canoe. Overhang is no problem, because the clamps slide anywhere along the crossbar to align with your canoe gunwales.  Most canoes have their gunwale lip (the little horizontal projection for clamping things to) on the inside, but if yours is on the outside, then you need at least 2 inches of overhang on each end to accommodate the clamps.
Stabilizer floats:Â Â Rigid plastic pontoons, streamlined shape, adjustable in and out and up and down, 37 inches long x 7 inches high x 7 inches wide at widest.
What's included: If you select the full system: 1 Seat, 2 gunwale clamps.  1 Crossbar. Stabilizer floats. Outrigger arms for the floats.  If you select just the crossbar, then just the crossbar.  If you select "without clamps" then no method of attachment to the canoe is provided. If you select "without seat" then you won't get a seat. Etc.
